Patricia Ann Balazs (Proctor) July 2, 1935 ~ May 16, 2015

It is with great sadness that Patricia Ann Balazs (nee Proctor), 79, of Ravenna, Ohio has passed over from complications of multiple myeloma on May 16, 2015. She was born July 2, 1935 in Ravenna, Ohio to Hazel and George Simpson Proctor. She grew up in Ravenna and graduated with honors from Kent State University. Patricia married John Balazs on March 17, 1956 and began raising their family. She taught Kindergarten at Rootstown Elementary School for 30 years, retiring in 1996. She had a vey active and enjoyable retirement pursuing many interests including singing in the Kent Choral Society, designing and building miniature museum-quality doll houses, cooking, joining a garden club and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her husband John, sons Stephen of Kent, Marty (Paula) of Tallmadge, Jeffrey (Julie) of Cleveland Heights, grandchildren, Erica, Lauren, Aaron and Jenna and nieces Jessamine and Julia, and sister-in-law Patricia Doyle. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bruce Proctor.

Pat has had the privilage and honor to have been selected to showcase her work through the years in the following publications:

The March 2013 Issue of Miniature Collector featured an article, and displayed on the cover, the Stone Cottage. Detailed descriptions with captivating photographs fill six pages of this English inspired cottage. Also included are sources, tips and techniques on coloring the stones and patio for an authentic look.

 



The April 2011 Issue of Miniature Collector featured an article, and displayed on the cover, the Lilac Cottage. Six pages of text and pictures outline the basic process that Pat follows when she builds her 1" scale structures. Also included are many of her tips, techniques and preferred building materials.



The September 2008 Issue of Miniature Collector featured an article, and displayed on the cover, the Rose Cottage. Several interior photographs, text elaborating on Pat's inspiration and techniques fill four pages.

 

 

 

The October 2006 issue of Miniature Collector displayed the Victorian Gothic Cottage kitchen on the cover. An article inside provided description and photographs of the Quilter's House, the Homestead, and the Townhouses. Her work continued in the Gallery section featuring the Garden Shed and many pictures of the Gothic Cottage.

 

 

The November 2003 issue of Miniature Collector featured a detailed, warm-hearted story written by Sue Veeder about the inspiration and building of the Jupie Cottage and the collaboration of fellow artisan Carol Kubesh.
